About Cate Franklyn
My name is Cate Franklyn and I am a contemporary urban photographer born and raised in Astoria, Queens, New York. I came to this vocation in mid-life, and in trying to find my photographic niche I remembered the axiom for novice writers: write what you know. I altered that to: photograph what you know, and what I know is my neighborhood.
My images reflect what I see as I walk along the streets of Astoria, Queens and her sister boroughs; Manhattan, Brooklyn, Bronx & Staten Island, with a focus on the grit and grunge of an urban landscape. I consider my photography art, and as much as I enjoy working with my camera I equally enjoy working in the digital darkroom. I use post processing software, like a painter would use a brush and paint to make creative enhancements of what I have seen through the camera and what my mind’s eye is seeing.
